TVTC Members Make a Strong Showing at Wildflower

TVTC made a very impressive showing at the 2011 Wildflower triathlon races on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1. For our second year fielding a team at the event, it was great to see people complete their first triathlon, others to improve on previous events, and most importantly for everyone to finish. 21 of our Members completed the Wildflower Olympic or Long Course triathlons and one member completed the sprint, with 99% of our participants improving on previous performances, or completing their first triathlon successfully and happily!
Friday evening, the team enjoyed the inspirational story of guest TVTCer, Luciana, training for and swimming across the English Channel. For our members new to swimming, or challenged by the swim leg, hearing Luciana's story of an almost 12 hour swim in waters hovering around 55 degrees with no wetsuit, mostly in the pitch dark, they felt more at ease about their one mile swim in lovely Lake San Antonio. TVTCers were in turn able to assuage Luciana's fears of completing her first triathlon. She successfully completed the Wildflower Olympic distance race on Sunday of race weekend, with, of course, an impressive swim time.
Brian L., who improved by 22 minutes from last year's performance, was are sole competitor in the Wildflower Long Course in 2010.
Big congratulations to everyone that crossed the line at Wildflower 2011!

- Tina (first ever triathlon, and rocked the swim!)
- Tom (top Olympic finisher for TVTC :)

- Mike (valiant finish with a pulled muscle)
- Vlad (paced well, finished strong, and with a huge smile!)
- Ryan (first triathlon ever! paced well! finished strong!)
- Steve L. (second Olympic distance, worked the swim and the bike!)
And our Lazy TVTC Ladies relay (that were not actually that lazy! :)
Ericka, Brie, and Coach Aubrey!! Was really fun to watch you cross the line together with all your tri gear on. I think that is the first time I've seen someone cross the finish line with a helmet on purpose!!
Ninth place overall relay! Nice job, ladies.
And, thanks to our special Friends of TVTC, Brandi, Vincent and Luciana! Thanks, Luciana, for sharing her story about swimming the English Channel. Very inspiring!
Everyone worked very hard. TVTC Wildflower finishers will enjoy a week of relaxing, and basking in your WF glories, then onto Silicon Valley Triathlons and other summer races!
